Gift Aid is a tax relief scheme in the United Kingdom that enables charities to reclaim the basic rate of tax on donations made by UK taxpayers. This means that for every pound donated by an eligible taxpayer, the charity can claim an additional 25 pence from the government through the Gift Aid scheme.

For example, if a taxpayer donates £100 to a charity and completes a Gift Aid declaration, the charity can reclaim £25 from the government, making the total donation worth £125 to the charity.

To qualify for Gift Aid, the donor must be a UK taxpayer and have paid enough income or capital gains tax to cover the amount being reclaimed by the charity. Additionally, the donor must complete a Gift Aid declaration, which confirms that they have paid enough tax to cover the reclaimed amount.
